This originally started as a list of tech gear that I use but has slowly spiralled into almost every part of my life. I hope you can make use of some of the recommendations below.
I work exclusively on a 13-inch 2022 M2 MacBook Pro (8GB / 500GB SSD) with Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad.
I work at an IKEA sit/stand desk with a NULAXY Telescopic 360º Rotating Laptop Stand.
I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max (128GB) and wear a 45mm Apple Watch Series 7, both charged nowhere near my bed on a Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand with MagSafe.
HEY for email and Basecamp for organisation. Zoom for conference calls. My employer likes Slack. Apple iCloud for everything else, especially Calendar, Photos, Music, and Notes.
Dropshare rivals WeTransfer. I use Google Cloud for long-term file archival but also own two 1TB Samsung T5 SSD external hard drives.
Adobe Creative Cloud, Avid Pro Tools, and Google Drive are my main artistic tools.
I browse the internet with Arc and use 1Password. WhatsApp, iMessage or Telegram for chat. I relax with Endel, Calm, and audio journal in DayOne. Opal helps me stay off my phone.
For recording, I use a RODE NT-USB Mini mounted on a RODE DS1 with a large soundproofing cube. In the field, I use an iRig HD2. I own 80 Ohm Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros but mainly use 3rd generation Apple AirPods and my Apple AirPods Max.
Zencastr and Cleanfeed for remote recording. MacWhisper Pro for transcripts.
This Jekyll site is managed using Nova and hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Domains and DNS via Cloudflare too.
My podcast feed is self-hosted on Cloudflare R2 with episodes mastered to be under 25MB and -16 LUFS (+/- 1LU) 44.1kHz/128kbps MP3 files.
Every bulb in my flat is a Philips Hue. I have two Eve cameras, an Eve door sensor, and I use a Philips Hue Smart Plug to control my non-smart TV. Two HomePod Minis power the lot.
Grind One coffee machine. I drink Grind or Starbucks.
I need to make more use of my Echelon Smart Connect EX3 Bike and Marcy Rowing Machine. Body+ smart scales from Withings.
I shoot on Kodak Ektar 100 or Portra 160. Ilford FP4 or HP5+ for black and white. I take development easy with Take It Easy.
I no longer use these products or services but I very much did enjoy using them in the past. They get an honourable mention.
