Show the wires … sometimes they’re cute – Lorde
It’s hard keep things measured, reserved, and intentional. I’ve been thinking about this as I rebuild my website from scratch and try once again in an increasingly fractured digital space to find a home to write online.
There’s beauty in seeing how things work. Making the hidden stuff visible and appreciating the build quality or construction of something is a simple pleasure. I like things that are structurally honest, functionally elegant, human-centric, and built to last.
A few of my favourite people/artists/designers mirror this, like the aesthetics of CW&T and Nothing Tech.
There’s a shared language there – and I’m really into it.
Anything that felt decadent or overly adorned seemed too rich […] I talked so much at the beginning of making this about wanting to see the [underlying] wires because that’s a lot of the vibe of Virgin.
